Brides must consider a number of factors before selecting the best style for their bridal tresses. These ladies of the silver screen epitomized style and Hollywood glamour.

In three easy steps you can achieve a glamourous pinup style. The You Tube channel has many how to makeup videos you can watch and learn from or try printing this article and go to your makeup with a mirror then start to play.

Here are three simple steps to get your "pinup" pretty on:

Step one: Liquid eyeliner from any brand you choose like Wet n Wild or LashFood is to be applied along the lash line as close to the lashes as possible with a small amount of winging out just past the end of your eyelashes. Liquid liner is the most authentic eyeliner look for the old Hollywood glamour though you can mix it up with your makeup and try a pencil or a slant tip brush, moistened and dipped into an eyeshadow in the color of liner you want to create.

Step two: To truly be "pinup" you are going to need a really great matte red lipstick! One of my favorites is Explore by Lorac or for the budget savvy in creating a new style, try Wet n Wild MegaLast Matte. This lipstick is new on the market and retails for $2.99 at Walmarts and Targets. To apply, start by lining your lips with a nude lip liner or a matching toned lip liner to your lipstick shade and then fill in the the entire mouth.

Step three: One hair flower to style and accentuate your hair with by adding to the side of your head just above the ear. I like Dollface Bettys, Lila JO and Exposure Swimwear hair flowers. Though the one I'm wearing in the Youtube how to video is from the Tinkerbell store in the local mall here in Arizona. I bought it for two dollars which is a fair price since they can average anywhere from five dollars to twenty dollars. You can even make your own hair flowers with clips and silk flowers or use a fresh flower and a bobby pin to secure it in your hair.

To achieve a truly "pinup" hairstyle, I suggest a set of rolled curls that are tucked under towards the neck or roll the hair back away from the face. One of the best and classic setting lotions for thse type of hairstyles is called Lotta Body setting lotion. You can purchase this for about ten dollars for a large bottle that can be diluted in strength to make it go further and do more hairstyles. Hair styles that had a smooth crown with tightly curled ends with a side pinned up in a flower is very old Hollywood glamour vintage "pinup" style!

Vintage hairstyles pictures can be seen in period movies, on some websites, or in a few books. Femme Fatale: Famous Beauties Then and Now (2001) is a large photo book by celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant. It is full of modern stars wearing vintage hairstyles. The cover shot is Julia Roberts with a 1920s bob hairstyle.

There is one chapter for each decade from 1900 to 2000. At the beginning of each chapter, there are 10 to 20 images of non-celebrities with different period hairstyles. These are family photos submitted to the author. Then the decade is introduced with a single page of text without any pictures. It summarizes the events of that period and explains how they influenced women's hair fashion. The rest of the chapter shows only celebrity pictures and has no text.

The organization of the book is simple in chronological order, but there is no table of contents which can help you quickly find a decade or celebrity. The pages aren't numbered except on the text page which introduces the chapter. At the back of the book there are four pages of thumbnails like on a website; they have the names of the stars below them, but without the year corresponding to the hairstyle.

Femme Fatale was produced by the collaboration of three experts: Serge Normant, a top French hairdresser; Michael Thompson, a famous fashion photographer; and Bridget Foley, a women's fashion magazine editor.

The makeovers for the book were done on top models and actresses. For example, you see the hairstyle transformations of the best 1990s supermodels: Cindy Crawford; Christy Turlington; Claudia Schiffer; Kate Moss; and Carmen Kass. The foreword was written by British actress Elizabeth Hurley and there are some pictures of her in the book. Because the focus is on top models and stars, there are few mature women. The exceptions are: Susan Sarandon; Ellen Barkin; and Heather Locklear. There are only a few black women: Alex Wek; Ananda Lewis; and Naomi Campbell.

The memorable styles are the ones on beautiful women which were major transformations from how we normally see them today, or those which are just absolutely gorgeous:

1) Cindy Crawford has her hair up in a big conservative 1910s updo.

2) Ellen Barkin is sophisticated like 1960s siren Bridget Bardot. There are two Bardot styles; for one her hair is up and for the other it is down.

3) Cate Blanchett appears completely different with a very short pixie hairstyle from the 1990s which is virtually a crew cut. Normant provides both the front and side views of it.

Unfortunately there are not enough images for popular decades. For example, there are only four different celebrity hairstyles for the 1930s and another four for the 1940s. For a long time 1940s hairstyles have been the most popular retro hairstyles.

Even so, the few we see are brilliant. There is Ellen Barkin as Jean Harlow with platinum blonde waves, and Julianne Moore with glamorous long red hair after a Rita Hayworth makeover. Olga Pantushenkova has a 1930s chignon that would be perfect for a modern wedding; the front is classy and the back is gorgeous.

Femme Fatale is a book of inspiration but not instruction. It is very heavy with images but rather light on text. The three experts did well, but it would have been much more valuable if they had used a fourth expert who provided step-by-step instructions on how to recreate the vintage hairstyles. It was surprising that Normant himself did not provide the guide because he created the looks!

The subtitle "Famous Beauties Then and Now" could be misinterpreted to mean that the book contains photos of Hollywood stars taken years ago and recently. But there aren't any such old pictures; it only has modern stars made up to look like old movie stars and old photos of women who aren't famous.

It is a fun book for women who like to dress up their hair in high style or just dream a little. Unless you have the time and skill to recreate the hair designs by Serge Normant without instructions, i.e., guessing and testing, you will want to use this book to show your hairdresser what you want. To get a do-it-yourself guide on vintage hairstyles with step-by-step instructions, your best bet is: Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques by Lauren Rennells.

Then came the big bouffant styles of the 60s, followed by the thick and full styles of the 70s and 80s. So what do we notice about hair fashion? It all goes around in circles! Uncomfortable nights sleeping whilst wearing hair rollers and pins were used to create those tight curls and it was popular to have thick "bangs" cut to create a more edgy style. From there the groovy swingin' 60s took over with huge fashion inspiring stars such as Twiggy parading her ultra short crop and the mop haired Beatles. With the 60s influence also came funky accessories such as multicolored headscarves, Alice bands and brightly colored flower power clips.

After the swingin' 60s came the punkish short spikey hairstyles of the 70s that were all the rage, this era also came with some very bizarre fashion trends! Remember the very slick inspirations from the glorious movie musical "Grease" featuring style legends of the time, John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. In this era, the only hair tool you needed was a big fat tub of hair gel.

The 80s continued the punkish theme, but brought along it is own styles of thick and feathered looks. Some of the style legends of this time include Michael Jackson, who modeled the trendy "Jheri curl" and Cindy Lauper who told us "Girls just wanna have fun", especially when dying their hair all sorts of vibrant colors as she did.

From here, hair fashion has developed into a more sophisticated, straight and sleek trend but with curly hair also still firmly holding its place as a timeless hair trend. The availability of hair straighteners, blow dryers, curling tongs, rollers, clips, accessories and highly trained hairdressers has allowed us all to develop our own hairstyles but celebrities such as Amy Winehouse and Dita Von Teese strive to model the vintage hairstyles but with their own modern twists.
